Dengue Travel Alert Issued for the Americas
On July 29, 2020, the U.S. CDC reissued a Level 1 Travel Alert regarding the ongoing Dengue outbreak in the region of the Americas. Dengue is a disease caused by a virus (serotypes 1, 2, 3, and 4) spread through mosquito bites. The disease can take up to 2-weeks to develop with illness generally lasting less than 1-week.
In the USA, the South Florida area near Key Largo has reported locally-acquired dengue cases during July 2020.
The Dengvaxia vaccine remains the only approved dengue prevention vaccine available today.
