The Kingdom of Thailand reopened its borders to COVID-19 vaccinated visitors for the first time in 18 months, reported the Tourism Authority of Thailand on November 15, 2021.

International travelers from 60 countries considered "low risk" can now visit 'Siam,' known for tropical beaches, opulent royal palaces, ancient ruins, and ornate temples.

The Royal Thai Government further adjusted color-zoning for different provinces while maintaining the relaxed COVID-19 controls, particularly in the 'Blue Zone' destinations in 17 provinces.

This news means nearly all businesses and activities in the Blue Zone destinations can continue to open with "New Normal" operations.

These include shopping venues, convenience stores, markets, cinemas and theatres, sports venues, hair salons and barbershops, massage and spa shops, beauty and aesthetic clinics, and tattoo shops.

Restaurants and eateries can also resume regular opening hours.

Meetings, events, and fairs can also be held typically with no limitation on the number of attendees.

However, all types of entertainment venues, including pubs, bars, and karaoke shops nationwide, remain closed.

Separately, U.S. agencies issued Level 3 Travel Advisories for Thailand on November 8, 2021.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a Level 3 Travel Health Notice for Thailand due to COVID-19, indicating a high level of COVID-19 in the country. Furthermore, various Routine and travel vaccines are suggested before visiting Thailand.

And the Department of State also issued a Level 3 Advisory that says 'reconsider travel to Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat, and Songkhla provinces due to civil unrest.'

According to the International Monetary Fund, Thailand is heavily reliant on tourism, which before the COVID-19 pandemic accounted for around one-fifth of the country's GDP and its overall employment.

Note:  Thailand won the 'Recommended Travel Destination of the Year' award at the 2021 City Travel Hotel Awards organized by the Chinese magazine City Travel.
