The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, began shipping monkeypox tests to five commercial laboratory companies to increase testing capacity and local access.

The companies include Aegis Science, Labcorp, Mayo Clinic Laboratories, Quest Diagnostics, and Sonic Healthcare.

“All Americans should be concerned about monkeypox cases. Thankfully we have right now the tools to fight and treat cases in America,” said HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra in a media statement issued on June 22, 2022.

“By dramatically expanding the number of testing locations throughout the country, we are making it possible for anyone who needs to be tested to do so.”

Healthcare providers will be able to use these laboratories by early July 2022, and testing capacity through these companies will be ramped up throughout the month.

The U.S. CDC reported that (156) monkeypox patients had been confirmed as of June 22, 2020.
