Yellow Fever Vaccines in Houston, Texas

The single-dose Yellow Fever vaccine YF-Vax® is available at Houston-based clinics and pharmacies. The YF-Vax vaccine generates maximum immunity after ten days. And while it's longer available in the U.S., the Stamaril® (17D-YFV) vaccine is offered in many countries by Sanofi Pasteur.

If you recently had a Measles-Mumps-Rubella vaccination, a waiting period of at least four weeks is recommended before getting the yellow fever vaccine.

Known as the 'yellow fever card,' the International Certificates of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP) is recognized internationally and may be required to enter certain countries with increased health risks for travelers. The CDC suggests scheduling an appointment one month before traveling internationally. The ICVP is available following vaccination at certified yellow fever vaccination centers.

The WHO's EYE Strategy aims at building a global coalition of countries and partners to tackle this increased risk of Yellow Fever epidemics in a coordinated manner. The Strategy includes three objectives: protect at-risk populations, prevent international spread, and rapidly contain outbreaks.

As of November 2022, the Dominican Republic's General Immigration Directorate confirmed visitors from Brazil, Colombia, or Venezuela need a yellow fever vaccination certificate to enter the Caribbean Island country. In addition, the U.S. CDC lists areas with a risk of Yellow Fever Virus Transmission in South America and certain countries in Africa.

The U.S. CDC lists countries endemic for the yellow fever virus and may require an ICVP at ports of entry. In addition, since September 2021, nine countries in the WHO African Region have reported human laboratory-confirmed cases of yellow fever.
