Fluzone High-Dose contains 3 killed flu virus strains.
For the 2019 Influenza season, the 3 killed viruses were A/Michigan/45/2015 (H1N1)pdm09-like virus (A/Michigan/45/2015 X-275), A/Switzerland/8060/2017 (H3N2)- like virus (A/Brisbane/1/2018 X-311) and B/Phuket/3073/2013-like virus (B/Phuket/3073/2013).
Fluzone High-Dose vaccines are indicated to help prevent influenza disease caused by influenza A and B strains contained in each vaccine.
Fluzone High-Dose is administered as a single 0.5 mL dose as an intramuscular injection.
Fluzone High-Dose vaccine is given to people 65 years of age and older.
Fluzone High-Dose contains four times the antigen (the part of the vaccine that helps your body build up protection against flu viruses) of standard-dose inactivated influenza vaccines.
The higher dose of antigen in the vaccine is intended to give older people a better immune response, and therefore, better protection against flu.
